Meet Our Senior Ambassador

First Class service from Senior Ambassador Harley Bressan

Harley started his career as a teenager at Paradise Resort.  As a teenager he had a passion to spend money on weekends, but he knew he had to work to obtain the funds to do so.  It was this passion that saw Harley go on to work in almost every department at the resort and subsequently gain a very good understanding of all aspects of the business.

We took some time out to get to know the man, leading the Ambassadors team, who will ensure everyone’s stay at The Ruby Apartments is anything but ordinary!

What is your favourite Gold Coast Restaurant?  There’s too many to name, but one of my all-time favourites is Omeros Bros Seafood Restaurant at Marina Mirage.

You’re planning a fun, local night out with your mates?  Which three locations top your list and why?  Justin Lane, Aloha Bar and Star Casino. I love pizza and other than the pizza made at Ruby you’ll find some of the best Pizza on the Gold Coast down at Justin Lane down in Burleigh.  There’s always a great atmosphere and drinks at Aloha Bar and the Casino, so these are definite choices for a fun night.

What are you passionate about? The beach.  I love the beach.  I’ve grown up by the water all my life and have been part of a number of different Surf Life Saving Clubs.

What is your favourite activity/hobby outside of work?  Too easy…. Eating food and hanging with friends!

Tell us a fun fact about yourself?  I am fluent in French. I did a French immersion program in high school where I undertook all my subjects in French.  As part of the program I went on 2 different exchange programs to France and one to Tahiti which was where I put everything I had learned into practice.

When have you been most satisfied in your life?  I am a pretty simple person. I like to see my friends and family happy; when they are, it is always a satisfying feeling for me. They are my number one and nothing can beat that feeling.
What’s your spirit animal?  Definitely a Turtle. They are wise, and I feel as though people are happy to come to me for advice or questions. Like a turtle, I always try and remain calm and collective no matter the situation, but although I might be slow on land, I am certainly fast in the water.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? When I was young I wanted to be a professional footballer.

If you retired tomorrow and wanted to start a wildly different second career, what would you do?  I would join the Food Network on TV to travel, eat food and learn about different cultures.

What is your proudest non-work achievement? Becoming a surf life saver.  I love being a life guard and helping people enjoy the water and stay safe.  I have also competed in Surf Lifesaving and have won club championships before at both state and national level.

Which is worse to regret: a mistake you made or not having tried something?  Definitely not having tried something.  You can always learn from mistakes and either turn it into a good experience or funny story, but I would hate to miss an opportunity that was right in front of me.

Tell us a little about your career and the jobs you’ve had?  I started in food & beverage and became very competent in every outlet and role within the department, before moving into the retail shop.  From there I spent time on the tour desk before a stint on reception.  I wanted to learn even more about running hotels so spent time as a night manager, before working as resort duty manager of the hotel, a position that I have held for the past couple of years before recently being promoted to the Senior Ambassador role at Ruby.

What was your reaction when you were asked to become the Head Ambassador at Ruby?  I was thrilled, I thrive off a challenge and I was ready to take on a new position and challenge myself once again.

What does the Ambassador role entail?  A Ruby Ambassador is not your traditional front desk clerk, food and beverage attendant or housekeeping supervisor. A Ruby Ambassador must be well rounded and open-minded with the goal to be able to provide total customer service. They need to be a specialist in all things. For example, if a customer arrives and are looking for reception, a Ruby Ambassador would not just point in the direction of reception and say that they will be able to help.  A Ruby Ambassador would walk with the guest to reception; make conversation with them along the way; assist them with their query; perhaps even walk with them over to the café to get a coffee or juice; and then support them in planning their holiday while they are on the gold coast.

What do you think is the most important asset of a Ruby Ambassador?  A Ruby Ambassador has will and character.  They are a well-rounded employee with a positive, fun and outgoing character who will motivate and drive other staff to reach their full potential.  They must want to provide all guests with an experience that is above and beyond.  An experience they will not get anywhere else.

What is your favourite thing about working in hospitality/at The Ruby Collection? It would most certainly be the team I work with. At the end of the day if I hadn’t been blessed by being a part of the Paradise Resort/ Ruby Collection team, I would not be where I am today. My favourite thing is the people I’ve met, the experiences I’ve had, and the number of laughs and good times I’ve had with both guests and fellow staff.

If we’re sitting here a year from now celebrating what a great year it’s been for you in this role, what did you achieve?  I challenged myself – overcame the challenges, grew in the role and brought up my entire team with me.
